High-Fidelity GNC Modeling
Validation of space-borne GNC software necessitates extensive simulation and testing. To this end, Astris Aerospace has developed Simulator for Testing and Launch Readiness (STELAR): a high-fidelity simulation framework built on our decades of GNC expertise. We routinely leverage this platform to test new algorithms, substantiate Attitude Determination and Control Subsystem (ADCS) designs and predict orbital operations prior to launch.
STELAR boasts accurate spacecraft dynamics, high precision orbit propagators and ephemerides (Earth, Sun, Moon and Solar System), realistic space environment (gravity gradient torque, magnetic disturbances, solar radiation pressure, n-body gravitation) and state-of-the-art models of actuators (momentum exchange and thrusters) and sensors (electrical, optical, gyroscopic). It leverages our staff experiences designing the GNC simulators used to launch over 30 satellites currently in orbit. STELAR implements modern software engineering principles to streamline the development of satellite ADCS. Emerging algorithms and new hardware can be rapidly modelled and assessed prior to implementing flight code or initiating procurement. Flight readiness reviews are regularly preceded by validating the full suite of operational scenarios and performing Monte-Carlo simulations on the framework to maximize confidence in the system.
